I've not updated in ages, having at least two posts sitting on assorted back-burners, but i should really mention this while there's time for people to go:

Scottish Traditional Beer Festival 2005

The Assembly Rooms, George Street

16thsorry-18th June

The largest range of Scottish traditional beers assembled under the one roof! Traditional cider also available. Live music Friday and Saturday.

Open noon to 11pm. Entrance £3 before 6pm, £4 after (£1 off for CAMRA members.

I should really have taken this afternoon off, and be there pulling pints right now, but I forgot to arrange it. So I'll be there tonight and a fair chunk of tomorrow (but able to take breaks to drink with people).

I do hope you've ordered some of that stout from the brewery in the Orkney Islands. Can't remember its name, but it's almost certainly the only stout made there, check it in the Good Beer Guide. There were a lot of quality beers down at Cambridge this year; and this one, in my opinion, was the best of a very good field indeed. Trust me, it's top stuff.

They're the folk who do Skullsplitter, presumably?

And whose website isn't functioning :-(

But these folk tell me it's Dragonhead Stout. Sounds very good.

I'm sorry I missed that at Cambridge, but then I missed the entire festival... yet again.

No problem. I'll be on the lookout for it now, despite my worries about exactly what a brew with a dragon head might be like: scales floating on top, maybe.

And a darn' fine bevvy it is, too. I'm also fond of their Dark Island.

I've always enjoyed their Skullsplitter, so I'm willing to believe their other offerings are as good. And such good names, too.
