I went out at about a quarter to four this afternoon to get to the bank and sort a few things out. At five, I get a phonecall from [livejournal.com profile] tigermoth saying she's got home and not only is the front door wide open, but all the lights are on.

On investigation, nothing appears to be missing, except Rob's rucksack and the PS2 (both of which were in his room). Still, we've phoned trhe police and are just waiting for the officers to arrive and go through the motions.

Yikes!

I was robbed three years ago - the toerags took my laptop and my stereo. Most of the important stuff on the laptop had been backed up onto my desktop, which was elsewhere, and the stereo was Argus-cheap - I still miss the Willie Nelson CD that was in it. The feeling of violation - that someone could get into my living space and take things from it - was worse than the actual losses. I swore violently for five minutes, shook for an evening, and was not in a good state for several days afterwards. (In fact, it rather helped that my landlord was a complete bastard, and I promptly moved out.)

Re: Yikes!

We were lucky that so little went. Suspiciously little, in fact. The police are pretty sure that someone who knew where the PS2 and Rob's rucksack were (a convenient size for the PS2) had managed to get their hands on a key. This is, unfortunately, not impossible.

Bastards. ::hugs:: to you and yours, and here's hoping nothing else has gone.

Thanks. It was mildly traumatic, but more in an upsetting way than in a shocking one. The only problem is that as the police are more or less sure it was an inside job, the general trust level in the house has dropped rather. I don't think Rob had anything to do with it himself, but it's not impossible that one of his friends who he'd lent the house keys to once could have copied them ([livejournal.com profile] gothtart has mentioned that Rob's friends would occasionally let themselves in when she was still living here and I was down South).

Oh, damn :-( really sorry to hear that - it's a horrible feeling, I know. {{{hugs}}} to all of you.

Thanks. We're more or less over the shock/upset, but not everyone's in the New! Secure! Habits! yet...
