Sacked Environment Minister Michael "HOW many houses?" Meacher has a cracking piece in today's Guardian. Not a lot new, perhaps, but a good collation....

If only he was still in government saying stuff like this.

And the best part of it is that the US (the US London embassy, anyway) can't think of a thing to say in response, except sulks.

It's a good article, full of citations from the public record of the kind that Noam Chomsky uses to demonstrate how the US government both lies to the electorate about what it's doing and then uses their forgetfulness to cover its back. But Meacher's article also includes the downright idiotic assertion that the the US government had specific forewarning about the 9/11 hijackings yet did nothing to prevent them -- which utterly undermines the rest of his remarks.

I didn't read it that way at first - more like the Pearl Harbour situation, where the important information was lost in the background noise.

Certainly in the TV and radio interviews (which I didn't see, but read about via the Google news site (NB link is topical and will expire)), Meacher backed away from the assertion that it was deliberate.
