Well, that was a surprise. I've just received a package from Artichoke, the production company who liaised with Royal de Luxe for the Sultan's Elephant thing last May.
There's a short DVD of the event (I'm briefly in the middle of it - almost exactly, actually, just past the five minute mark on a ten minute video) in a card folder with some postcards, and a newsletter that - among other things - lists the benevols, the yellow-shirted volunteers (but it's the version of the list from the newsletter that came out during the event, and so is missing at least one person). Oh, and there's going to be a book, with pictures, and people's memories and stuff.
And that reminds me, of course, that I've not posted my full write-up yet....

Even half a write-up would be mighty interesting.

Bran the Bronzesmith
Completely off topic, but I wasn't sure you pick up notes from your old blog. Did you ever find a copy of Bran the Bronzesmith? I suddenly remembered it myself only a couple of days ago (borrowed it from a pile of books in a store room in my secondary school, probably about 1980). It had long dropped off the reading list, but was a fabulous read.

I had an email out of the blue from someone who managed to find a second copy. I'm still looking for one, though, with the coloured pictures/jacket.
Good hunting!

I'm not sure what "torchbearers" are, but I gather that in various cities, there are subcultures of people with experience in parades and crowd control, and that if you are planning some kind of spectacle, it is good to get in touch with these people.

Torchbearers are part of the Nightwatch - and provide lighting for the festivals of the Beltane Fire Society...
